Is there such a things as good fats? In a day and age where it is impossible to open any newspaper or visit any website without noticing the word “obesity”, how can fats be good?
The answer can be found in one single place: www.DHAomega3.org
I am not promoting a product or a site but let me tell you a story.
Approximately 5 years ago I saw a patient in the Pediatric Weight Clinic that I work in. The adolescent was in to seek help regarding lifestyle changes. I noticed that he did not like the sight and smell of fish. His mother did not serve any fish. They told me that they thought all fats are bad. When I told them about the benefits of omega 3 fatty acids they were surprised. Since then—5 years later I still get a number of families surprised by this medical fact.
So as a mother and parent who want to be healthy in order to live productively and live long and strong what will you do?
My suggestion is to become Greek—eat like a Greek. (The Mediterranean diet is the only diet which passed the test of time)Eat more fish. Eat more salads with lots of virgin olive oil. Do it often; at least twice a week with fish. Stay away from shark and swordfish because it contains too much mercury.
Or start taking fish oil supplements. Avoid the ones that make you burb—unless you enjoy being followed by a herd of cats. Need more convincing? Then visit www.DHAomega3.org
I can predict only two things about you one year from now. You will either be healthy or sick. Its essential to eat like a Greek–enjoy the healthy fats and live life by example. Your kids are watching…
