The Game and Fame Gap

Maria Sharapova

She had a huge gap. On the one hand she was tall, blond, beautiful and one of the most marketable female athletes of her time.

On the other hand she did not win enough games.

The New York Times said “The gap between her game and her fame closed considerably on Saturday”

What happened?

Maria Sharapova won the French Open title which secured her a career Grand Slam. This after she had all the reasons to quit: shoulder surgery which forced her to cut back; near wins—good but not good enough.

In life there will be times when you are good. You will be better than those you compete with. But there is nothing to show for all your hard work and dedication.

Don’t learn from this blog; learn from athletes who never quit. In this case Ms Sharapova.

Stay with it. That is about as succinctly as I can put it.
