You are always on the run trying to get things done—simply keeping your nose above the water is a daily challenge and then there are days when you nose is not above the water— but only for a short time, because you still are alive!
We all face problems. It’s as sure as the sun rises in the East. But how we manage and solve those problems will determine how long we live. It can be a matter of life and death—literally
As a doctor with over 30 years of experience I can tell you what I have seen in my exam rooms. I have seen people turn grey; get wrinkles; develop paunches in a short time and walk with their spines less straight. That is what I see from the outside. What I cannot see is their blood pressure. That must be measured. They can’t feel it, so its 100% true to hypertension (high blood pressure) is a silent killer
Now that I have convinced you that trying to do too much may harm you, here is a solution:
—-pay close attention to your associations
What do I mean by associations? People for sure; people you like to be with—friends and family; balcony people—ones that lift you up unlike basement types that pull you down; people you can learn from—mentors who help you win
However, have you ever wondered how books, videos, and CDs can help you associate with the right people too?
Not so long ago I was on the ropes so to speak. The constant grey skies and relentless minus 30C temperatures got to me. I walked by my bookshelves and my eye caught a book I last read 18 years ago. Because it was a day of rest I had the time to dust it off and review it at a leisurely pace, surprised by the timeless truths and simplicity. What I highlighted 18 years ago and the notes in the margins made with my fountain pen, still applied today.
So here is this week’s challenge
- Review and reflect upon your associations with people
- Associate with a wise author via a book. Write in the margins. Make notes. Revisit those notes later. Apply them daily by using a checklist or other reminders.
If you want to live your life by example make sure you have examples that make you live long and strong. It is so easy to get stuck on the treadmill of daily chores. Step off it. Relax and enjoy the right associations.
