We all are creatures of habit.
Today I have a simple story which hopefully will get you to think more about this question:
—What is one thing that I can start doing more regularly which will help me be happy?
My story starts in a steam shower. I enjoy having a steam shower when it is minus 18 Celsius (minus 1F). After putting in many miles of running in Arctic air for hours, getting ready for my next marathon it is extra blissful to meditate in the shower, inhaling warm humid air.
And now here is my habit: When I turn the steam off, I draw a happy face on the glass door where the steam accumulated. It’s a ritual now. It reminds me to be unconditionally happy.
It also reminds me of a simple chapter from the book, “The Untethered Soul—a journey beyond yourself”, where the author, Michael Singer writes about unconditional happiness.
Michael wrote “You have to realize that you really only have one choice in this life, and it is not about your career, whom you want to marry, or whether you want to seek God. In the end you make one basic decision. Do you want to be happy, or do you want to be unhappy? If you decide that you are going to be happy from now on for the rest of your life, you will not only be happy, you will become enlightened”
I highly recommend thinking about a simple gesture you can make a habit. Keep it simple. Try it. It works. I know.
